A Little Bit About Me
Let's introduce the lady behind the URL, Amber Bristow (aka me)! I am a twenty-five-year-old aspiring author from Surrey, England, who works in the world of event planning. I am the mother to two furry babies who love me only when I shake a packet of Dreamies or screw up a ball of tinfoil.
My main passion in life, as you may have guessed, is writing. It is something I have done ever since primary school. Granted, everything I wrote back then was riddled with spelling mistakes and seriously lacked any form of narrative structure, but I loved it nonetheless.
The first story I wrote was when I was nine years old, about a little girl who grew up in poverty, going on a journey to seek a better life. I remember staying up all day and all night writing, researching different cultures and trolling through thesaurus' to try to make myself sound more intelligent. I can safely say, my mission to sound smart failed miserably, when even I couldn't understand what I had written. It was definitely a Tribbiani moment.
In spite of my rather questionable vocabulary, I decided then and there that one day I would become an author. I didn’t have a clue about when or how, but that was it – my mind was set.
Over the years, my passion only grew (and thankfully, my literacy skills). My Google Drive became flooded with story ideas, character profiles and random passages that hadn’t yet found a home. At any one time I was writing at least two stories, changing the music on my headphones as I flicked between the tabs to reposition myself in the minds of my characters.
On a whim, I decided to start sharing my work in December of 2022. It was then that I found myself a small community of people who, for whatever reason, set aside time in their day to read my work and share their thoughts. The feedback I received was amazing, unleashing a newfound excitement for the pastime I already loved so much.
Now, let’s fast forward to the first day of 2024, when I sat down with my partner and listed out my goals for the year. I wrote down the usual things: save some money, progress in my career and expand my fur-family. Then, he asked me why I wasn’t writing down the thing that had been sitting at the top of my bucket list since I was a child: publishing my first book.
Although publishing a book isn’t quite that straightforward, he had a point. My dream in life was to become an author. No matter how many people read my work, I just wanted to have it out there, sitting on a bookshelf because someone believed in me enough to put it there.
That’s when I set the goal of finishing the first draft of the novel that I want to share with the world. That's why I’m here, creating a little corner of the internet that I can call my own.
In this space you will find a plethora of short stories that I’ve written, and one day, hopefully, my first novel.
